Measurement and Analysis of Velocity and Pressure Distribution Behind a Cone

  • The detailed measurements of velocity and pressure distribution behind a cone were obtained by using an omnidirectional 17-hole pressure probe. The cone angle is 60°, the attack angle is 0° and the inlet conditions are Re=1.5×105 and Re=3.0×105. The flow field was also visualized by smoke trace and compared with measurement result. Through the analysis of both the velocity and the pressure field, the distributions of vorticity and entropy production caused by viscous dissipation were obtained. For both the two inlet conditions, the distributions of axial velocity along the cone axis are exactly similar. Three low-speed extreme points were found, and one is over the stagnation point, the other two are under it. The flow field is easy to be divided into three subzones:main flow zone, shear zone, and inner-vortex zone. At the stagnation points of both the two flow fields, the static pressures are approximately equal to the environment static pressure.
